Confused about Rules of Golf and Universal Handicapping System?

Are you confused about Rules of Golf and the World Handicapping System? Then welcome to My Golf, where I hope we can, through regular posts and information pages, help to de-mystify some of the Rules of Golf and explain the World Handicapping System issues that you, and I may have come across during our rounds of golf, whether they were social or competition rounds.

Many websites deal directly with the Rules of Golf and, though very informative, can be a little heavy to understand. The accent on this website will be on basic everyday rules, Handicapping changes that were introduced in 2020 and Modernised R&A Rules of Golf introduced in January 2019.

The year ahead is exciting for golf, as the R&A and CONGU look toward introducing the World Handicap System.

Using your experiences, questions and feedback, the website will become a personal site of information for you as a first port-of-call when you have a Rule of Golf query or perhaps questions about The World Handicap System  or running competitions.

As information filters through I will update the Blog with details of the Rules of Golf 2019, that came into effect  on January 1st 2019, and the World Handicap System, which was introduced in GB&I on 2nd November 2020.

Again, please do not hesitate to contact me about any queries you may have on these subjects or sign up to my Newsletter to keep automatically up to date with Rules and Handicap Developments.

I hope you enjoy your visit to MY GOLF.

CONGU have published an update to the Rules of Handicapping as Applied to GB&I. Rules of Golf 14.1c Marking, Lifting and Cleaning a Ball – So this means a player can DELIBERATELY clean their ball for a one-shot penalty?

I received a comment on Marking, Lifting and Cleaning your ball, which relates to the wording of Rule 14.1c: ‘If the player cleans a lifted ball when not allowed, he or she gets one penalty stroke’. The comment was: ‘So, this means a player can DELIBERATELY clean their ball for a one-shot penalty? I am thinking …
